Introducing: Layla Ann Gamedze
We are so excited that Maggie and Muzi’s baby girl, Layla finally made her entry into the world on May 28. The last few weeks of Maggie’s pregnancy were fairly stressful as she dealt with high blood pressure and all the caution and concern that comes with that but PRAISE GOD, both mom and baby are healthy and happy. Big sister Lisa is adjusting to a baby in the family and is pretty proud (most of the time) to have a baby sister. Maggie and Muzi are doing great learning to parent both girls at once. We are so thankful for friends and family who contributed financially and prayerfully to the healthy delivery of our Layla girl. We are enjoying grandparent life TWICE as much now that we have two granddaughters.
We were able to visit the States in the first part of this year and it was the first time we’ve had all of our girls and their families together in one place, ever. It was so good to have all our kids in one room for a while!
It has been a crazy couple of years, with 2 marriages, 2 new sons-in-law, 2 new granddaughters, the loss of Steve’s dad and Amy’s brother-in-law, 3 trips to the States, two hip surgeries for Mumu, 2 moves/3 different houses for us. Not to mention a global pandemic and political unrest within Eswatini, opening a respite home for kids with disabilities, saying ‘good-bye’ to many friends who have left Eswatini and continuing to figure out what our ministry here looks like through -and now (hopefully) on the other side of- COVID.
We couldn’t make it without all your prayers, friendship and support and we are very, very thankful for each of you.
Praises!
We are so thankful for the healthy delivery of Layla.
-We are happy to be in a new (to us) home that is very wheelchair friendly and much more affordable than our previous home. Good neighbors, beautiful views and closer to Muzi and Maggie’s home.
-We are thankful for peace in Eswatini and the gradual relaxing of restrictions and COVID cases.
-We enjoyed a great Missionary Retreat with Mt. Brook Community Church in Birmingham in March. What a blessing to have time for learning, renewal and fellowship. It was wonderful.
HUGE Prayer Request!!
After over 10 years with Mumu as a part of our family, we have a court date to pursue her legal adoption.
- July 29th the High Court here in Eswatini will consider our plea to adopt
- Pray for favor with the judge and ultimately with the Attorney General who will decide if we will be allowed to proceed with pursuing her adoption
There really is not the legal or governmental framework set up at this time to handle adoption of a swati child by non-swati citizens.
Pray that God will make a way where there is no way. It doesn’t make sense to most government officials here that we would want to adopt a child with disabilities.
Pray that God will continue to use Mumu to show His love for people with disabilities and their worth in His family and in society.
Thanks. We love y’all.
